peer_compare

Compares one to six mapped SEC XBRL metrics for two to fifteen US companies. Annual or quarterly observations are aligned by actual period end to accommodate different fiscal calendars.

Equity researchers building comparable-company tables from reported financial facts.

What it does

Compare one to six SEC XBRL metrics for 2–15 US companies. Periods are aligned by actual end date (within 183 days for annual or 45 days for quarterly) to handle different fiscal calendars; the reference date and each row's actual period end are returned. Rankings are descending, skip missing values, and use competition ranks for ties. Available metrics: revenue, grossProfit, operatingIncome, netIncome, epsBasic, epsDiluted, totalAssets, currentAssets, totalLiabilities, currentLiabilities, longTermDebt, totalEquity, cashAndEquivalents, operatingCashFlow, capex, rdExpense, sharesOutstanding, dividendsPerShare, dividendsPaid, stockBasedCompensation, deferredRevenue, goodwill, intangibleAssets, depreciationAmortization, costOfGoodsSold, sellingGeneralAndAdministrative, interestExpense, otherNonoperatingIncomeExpense, pretaxIncome, incomeTaxExpense, shortTermInvestments, weightedAverageDilutedShares, shareRepurchases, accountsReceivable, inventory, accountsPayable, propertyPlantEquipment, investingCashFlow, financingCashFlow, grossInterestIncome, netInterestIncome, noninterestIncome. There's no default metric — if the user's request doesn't name one (e.g. "compare Apple and Microsoft" with no metric specified), ask which they want before calling rather than guessing.

Metric values, each company's actual period end, a reference period, and descending competition ranks that skip missing observations.

What to expect

Metric values, each company's actual period end, a reference period, and descending competition ranks that skip missing observations.

Important limits

Fiscal periods do not always align exactly; inspect the returned period ends before comparing. Choose the metric explicitly—this tool does not guess one.

Data sources and verification

EdgarStack uses SEC EDGAR filings and, for applicable tools, SEC XBRL company-facts data. Coverage depends on the issuer, filing, taxonomy tags, and tool inputs. Follow the source filing references and verify material facts against the official filing.
